Coach Brown believes the Knicks' frustration with the officiating crew led to their downfall. He stated, "In the first half, we blamed everything on the officials. That's disappointing because we were the ones at fault for many of the issues on the court."
And this is the part most people miss: Brown's comments were not just directed at Brunson, but also at star player Karl-Anthony Towns, who seemed agitated by the Magic's physical defense. Towns' emotional response nearly resulted in a technical foul, which further fueled Brown's frustration.
"Our goal is to play physical without fouling," Brown explained. "But against the Magic, we crossed that line. We gave them an advantage by starting their first four possessions at the free-throw line, which made them feel comfortable with their aggressive style."
Mikal Bridges, another key player for the Knicks, agreed with Brown's assessment. He emphasized the need to keep emotions in check and focus on the game, saying, "We gotta leave the refs alone. Even if there are fouls, we need to let it go and bring energy to the other end."
