Self Esteem's Tour Life: From Drunk Days to Yoga & Community (2025)

Saturday with Self Esteem: 'In the past, it was second nature for everyone to be a little drunk all the time, but now it's all about moderation.'

When I'm not on tour, I wake up early, around 6:30 am or 7 am. I prioritize exercise and email responses to stay grounded. I feed my dog and get ready for the day, skipping breakfast until midday. I either go for a run or do squats at home, knowing exercise boosts my mood. On tour, I aim for a late start, waking up around 11 am in my cozy bunk on the bus.

At festivals, I seek out showers, often unglamorous. Catering usually starts at 12 pm, and I wait to eat with my bandmates. We might not perform until 9 pm, so I sleep more or work. At Electric Picnic, backstage amenities included a tattooist, masseuse, makeup artist, and hairdresser, leading to spontaneous tattooing, like getting my dog's initials inked.

I enjoy festival experiences but am shy, preferring to keep a low profile. The show's demands require me to be well-rested. As a performer, I've moved away from drinking, embracing professionalism and energy conservation, a stark contrast to my younger days.

Tour life involves sitting around, but we play Uno and scroll through phones. Pre-show, we eat at 6 pm if I'm performing at 9 pm. My team is highly professional, with many theater backgrounds, ensuring wise time management and energy preservation.

I love performing and take pride in my current show. The community and sisterhood among artists are special. I thrive on the energy exchange with fans, healing me amidst the industry's unfairness.

Post-performance, I 'come down,' a challenging process despite the industry's temptations to stay up. Yoga, food, and self-care are essential. Past drinking cultures were damaging, and moderation is key.

Having multiple gigs in one city helps me settle in. Traveling between cities is less daunting than imagined. I've endured Sprinter buses and sleeping on floors, appreciating my current tour bus comfort.

I embrace adulthood, even mundane tasks like laundry. Before sleep, I listen to podcasts like Trixie and Katya's 'Drag Race' reviews and Dan Snow's 'History Hit.' I can't stand being alone with my thoughts.
